Three decades of musical friendship

In the summer of 1997, at a music festival in Tunisia, the paths of Manuel Delgado and Ralf Siedhoff crossed.

One was a gifted Spanish flamenco guitarist, the other an equally talented German world and jazz guitarist.

They took to each other, and the promise that “we simply have to do something together” was not forgotten (as so often among musicians) but kept – and it lasts to this day.

3 Continents visited

Through tours in Europe, India and Africa, the duo has played its way to a broad international audience. The musical traditions of other cultures are a great treasure chest for the two guitarists. The different musical styles flow into their compositions and make their music a lively, boundless experience.

4 Albums together

Four albums document the duo’s musical development, their creative interplay and their artistic ambition:

As early as 1998, the first joint album “Azucena” appeared, with Ralf Siedhoff and Manuel Delgado as the sole protagonists.

Two years later came “Crossing Roots – The Guitar Duo meets The Karnataka College of Percussion”, a musical fever dream through India.

In 2011 they founded Sin Distancia Trio with the Spanish percussionist Ernesto Martinez and released the album “Soleado”.

And in 2018 the duo joined forces again for the album “Tu Tiempo” by Siedhoff’s project Bosque Magico.

30 Years of collaboration

Over more than 30 years, The Guitar Duo has grown into an exceptional musical phenomenon that unites flamenco, classical, jazz and world music in a unique sound world. Their deeply rooted friendship is reflected in each of their compositions.

Why fans love The Guitar Duo

…the finest handcraft, sure to delight every guitar connoisseur and lover. In guitar terms, this is among the best you can find on the market.

– Peter Horton

…here sparks of inspiration are struck from the strings, growing into a musical firework display.

– Regensburger Stadtzeitung

In the category of world-music blends, “The Guitar Duo” impressed with a combination of flamenco (Manuel Delgado), classical guitar (Ralf Siedhoff of Weimar) and improvisational skill schooled in jazz on both sides. With their superb technical command of punchy staccato salvos, they can quite well be compared with Paco de Lucía and John McLaughlin more than twenty years ago; the even warmer interaction was far from a copy.
